Hector "Macho" Camacho (40-1, 18 KOs)

vs. Julio Cesar Chavez (81-0, 68 KOs)

Sept. 12, 1992, Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, Nev.

"Macho" Camacho, the WBO light welterweight champ, had recently avenged the only loss of his career by beating Greg Haugen. He also had wins over Tony Baltazar, Vinny Pazienza, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Howard Davis Jr., Cornelius Boza Edwards and Edwin Rosario, among many others. Chavez already was regarded by some as the greatest fighter of his era, but by others as a guy who had built his glitzy record (as Haugen famously said) against "Tijuana taxi drivers." This figured to be a test for both fighters, who, together, were 121-1 coming into this title fight.
