Roberto Duran (92-9, 65 KOs)

vs. Vinny Pazienza (37-5, 27 KOs)

June 25, 1994, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nev.

This was the first of two fights between the flaky and flamboyant Pazienza and the ferocious but aging Duran, with the IBC super middleweight championship as the prize. The 34-year-old Pazienza had won eight in a row (including a TKO of Lloyd Honeyghan). Duran, at 43, was well past his heyday, but hadn't lost a fight in three years. This fight wasn't expected to be a classic, but it was good enough to warrant a rematch just seven months later.
