Vitali Klitschko (32-1, 31 KOs)

vs. Lennox Lewis (40-2-1, 31 KOs)

Oct. 22, 1999 at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, Calif.

Lewis, the undisputed world heavyweight champ, had trained to fight Kirk Johnson (who pulled out due to injury) and was flagrantly underconditioned for Klitschko, whom he characterized as an opponent with no discernible boxing skills. Dr. Ironfist, the No. 1 contender, saw an opportunity for a career-changing victory. This fight became more dramatic as it wore on and its ending is still a subject of conversation among boxing fans today.
