IN BOXING
By Reni M. Valenzuela
For the unimaginable evils that Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
has done, and is doing in
boxing, to his wife, father, Pacman , Golden
Boy,
and
to
everyone
of
us,
the
whole boxing world should be raging in righteous indignation by now.
No doubt, Mayweather possesses exceptional skills
in boxing but just like hiring an employee, you don’t just look at the
resume submitted, you check on the “flipside” of the person’s skills or
abilities which are attitudes, streaks and character.
And more often than not, that’s where an
applicant is rejected after having passed all the other qualifications.
A certain Holyfield has just commented on an
internet boxing article:
“If Mayweather, Jr. is the face of boxing
today, just as he continues to insist, I don’t want to see boxing
anymore.”
Or, I would have
preferred to be born a century ago to enjoy the sport, and in the
process become a better man.

Reni’s interest in
boxing dates back during his elementary and high school days
when he would
be asked to compete in
boxing matches especially during community fiesta celebrations
representing the place in Manila where he grew up. He fought in
boxing competitions probably the same number of times that he
joined in singing contests also during fiestas of the same
period.
Reni took part in different
songwriting festivals but it was his God-given talent in drawing
and painting that made him win the grand prize.
A graduate of
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, he has been into
different business ventures and currently owns and manages a
herbal production and trade company. Reni is a resource speaker
in different Christian mission gatherings and forums. He travels
to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in various congregations.
He is into other sports
interests like basketball, table tennis and swimming.
Reni loves writing. But his
one most consuming passion
is the Word of God.
